Weddings… let’s talk about it

So I'm writing as I commute back home on a Friday night, and am in the middle of my sister's wedding, and oh boy this is stressful and too much to handle. Fast forward why the heck is it so hard? You'd think it's such a straightforward thing to answer but I kid you not just months ago I had no idea. So basically my perception of a wedding was a person gets married and we eat and drink maybe things like getting a location, to clothing, and things like taking photos and then boom that's the wedding. Now these past months I've learned that a wedding is also another virus killing people's pockets and this virus is attacking so hard and so fast. From planning to executing to communicating to inviting, I don't like any step of the process. Well before this ladies I can feel them replying quickly saying but it's worth it and only happens once in a lifetime. However, here's a list of other significant life events that we don't celebrate in the same extravagant way:

  • Graduating from college or getting an advanced degree
  • Landing your dream job or a major promotion
  • Buying your first home
  • Having a child
  • Paying off all your debts
  • Retiring after a long career
  • Overcoming a serious illness or achieving a major health goal
  • Starting a successful business
  • Reaching a significant anniversary (like 25 or 50 years of marriage)
  • Accomplishing a lifelong dream (like writing a book or running a marathon)

Now I do get if it's someone you are to spend your whole life with you need the day to be perfect right but let me note something... Happiness can be found in different ways and events. Here are some alternative ways to celebrate love and commitment that might be less stressful and more meaningful:

  1. Intimate gatherings: A small celebration with close family and friends can be just as special and far less overwhelming.
  2. Adventure elopements: Combine your wedding with a unique travel experience, focusing on the couple rather than a large event.
  3. Charitable celebrations: Instead of a traditional reception, organize a volunteer event or donate to a cause you both care about.
  4. Personal rituals: Create your own meaningful ceremony that reflects your relationship and values, without the pressure of conforming to traditions.
  5. Experiences over things: Invest in shared experiences like a dream honeymoon rather than an elaborate one-day event.

Now lastly this issue is not to disrupt anyone's planning, guys have weddings they are nice and cozy and I like the food at weddings, but just so you know mine is probably not so near as I thought. And when it does happen, it might look quite different from the traditional affair we're all used to.

In the meantime, I'll be here questioning societal norms and dreaming up alternative ways to celebrate love that don't involve maxing out credit cards or losing sleep over seating arrangements. Who's with me?

Catch you guys in the next Sunday scoop. Peace👌
