From Maj to Andersen - A Rebrand That's More Than Just a New Logo
👌Howdyy, Scoopers!
You know how sometimes you look in the mirror and think, "Man, I gotta do something different"? Well, it's not just us humans. Companies do it, too. And today, we're talking about a company that's gone through a major makeover.
Remember Maj Consulting? Chances are if you know me well, you know them; This week, i was around when they announced their new name, Andersen in Rwanda. And let me tell you, there was more to it than just a new logo. And I was a bit shocked when I found out the real reason.
Let's dive in!
So, you've probably noticed a trend lately - Twitter is now X, Bard is now Gemini, ConvertKit is now Kit, Facebook Inc. morphed into Meta, and even our beloved Rwandan Francs got a makeover!?
Seems like everyone's jumping on the rebranding bandwagon, right? Well, buckle up because today we're diving into a rebranding story that's close to home - and trust me, it's not your typical average.
But first, let me take you back to December 1st, 2023. Picture this: a short-eyed youngster (yours truly) walking into an office, headphones on, and a podcast playing to calm the nerves. Little did I know I was about to embark on one of the most exciting journeys of my life. That day was my first time Joining what by then was Maj Consulting Ltd, a company that did Tax and Business advisory?!
Trust me, a lot of my people asked why? I turned down an internship job at Irembo.gov.rw at that same time, just a week after I was confirmed to join shorter after my interview, and people would ask me: you turned it to do what job? Well, I saw potential. Potential in the company, sure, but also in myself. I knew I could grow here, learn things I never imagined, get out of my comfort zone and be part of something bigger. And boy, was I right!
Fast forward to today, September 14th, 2024 - 10 months, 7641.6 hours, countless cups of coffee, and a lifetime of experiences later. I've gone from a fresh-faced programmer who'd never touched Office 365 to managing IT for a growing team of 19+ users with as much freedom. Talk about a glow-up (Consider this a Joke, folks😉)!
Now, let's talk about the real glow-up - Maj Consulting's evolution to Andersen in Rwanda.
You might be wondering, "Why do companies rebrand anyway?" After weeks of research (and maybe a TikTok Demuer dive or two), I came up with some hilarious reasons:
- "The Midlife Crisis": Company realizes it's not as cool as it used to be.
- "Corporate Plastic Surgery": The old logo started to sag, so they gave it a facelift.
- "Pivot Party": Selling floppy disks just isn't cutting it anymore.
- "The Metaverse Makeover": Because if Mark Zuckerberg is doing it, it must be cool, right?
But guess what? None of these applied to Maj. Their rebrand wasn't about covering up scandals or jumping on trends. It's a long well, well-thought-out plan about growth, opportunity, and stepping onto a global stage.
To be clear, I have respect for other companies/firms that do that as well. They do come up with so many great reasons, and they totally make sense and checks out, but here's the thing: I think it's rare for those companies to have an apparent reason for why what the rebrand holds for both them and the people they serve and when you can't communicate the message clearly to the users, Thanks you failed; most importantly having a bold vision like ours makes a hell of a difference (Somehow I managed to involve myself huh!😊)
As our founder, James, puts it: "The decision to rebrand as Andersen in Rwanda reflects our commitment to continually evolve and provide the best possible service to our clients."
LSS, this week, I had the incredible opportunity to attend our rebranding cocktail party with clients. (Side note: who knew tax advisors could party? Definitely not me), It was terrific to chat with people from different industries & backgrounds and get a glimpse into their worlds.
Our partner director, Catherine, kicked things off, and then our very own Techie/Tax Advisory Director Timothy warmed the stage for the man of the day, James, to give us the speech about our journey and what the future holds. And let me tell you, standing there, listening to our story - from MTN to hotel lobbies and ginger tea meetings to joining a network of 17,000 professionals across 475+ locations - I felt like I was witnessing history in the making.
So, what does this mean for you, Tonny? What does this mean for your company's "awesome" clients?
- Global Reach: Need tax advice in Tokyo or legal help in London? We've got you covered now seamless, faster and excellentic as before. Imagine you're expanding your business to Japan - with our new network, we can connect you with local experts who know the ins and outs of Tokyo's tax laws before you even step off the plane!
- Enhanced Expertise: We're tapping into a goldmine of global knowledge and best practices, helping to solidify the things we knew and the ones we don't. It's like having a world-class library of tax and business knowledge at our fingertips.
- Same Great Team: The faces you know and trust, now with superpowered capabilities across the globe.
This isn't just a new coat of paint or new email addresses - it's rocket fuel for our mission to serve you better (Take that Elon).
As I reflect on my journey from that nervous kid with headphones to being part of this incredible transition, while relentlessly excelling in other areas of life, career and personally. I'm filled with gratitude for the trust placed in me and excitement for what's to come for them as my team.
So here's to new beginnings, endless possibilities, and a future that's brighter than ever.
What do you think about this rebranding journey? Have you ever been part of a major transition in your work or life? I'd love to hear your stories, I know some of your nerds are thinking of ways this has been challenging as an IT and trust me there's too much to be told; what time do you have? 😉
