The productivity trap

Ever find yourself in a 2 AM YouTube rabbit hole, watching someone color-code their entire life?

Yeah, me too. And it’s time we talk about it.

Here’s the deal: Organization used to be this magical thing that made life easier. But now? It’s turned into a toxic habit, and I’m calling it out.

The Confession

Let me break it down for you:

  1. Fridge organization videos? Pure dopamine.
  2. Garage makeovers with labeled bins? Better than Netflix.
  3. Closet restocking timelapses? I’m addicted.
  4. New productivity apps? Shut up and take my money!

But here’s the kicker: We’re buying crap we don’t need just to recreate these Instagram-worthy setups.

The Wake-Up Call

Picture this: A mom buys a bunch of new spices, throws out perfectly good containers, all for the ‘gram. Why? So her spice rack can look like it belongs in a museum of modern art.

I get it. Matching stuff is satisfying. But at what cost?

The Great Planner Delusion

Confession time: I’ve watched 2-hour videos on organizing planners. I’ve tried to schedule my life like some productivity guru on the internet and as you've already guessed it. IT Doesn’t. Work.

Here’s the truth: I get the temptation. There's something so satisfying about everything matching, everything looking aesthetically pleasing. But the added steps that it creates to life is honestly not very worth my time and mental energy. The time to customize your calendar and color-code it or your notion second brain.. It's just not worth it.

Now Look, I'm a very organized person, I would say, and most people I know think of me as an organized person. However, the way people do it online for the most part is completely unrealistic and there's just no way that you'll keep doing it like they do. here are my favorite one anyways:

The Real Deal

Want to know what actually works? Here’s my no-BS setup:

  1. Rise Calendar (syncs with work stuff)
  2. Google Docs & Sheets (for collaboration)
  3. Notion (for when my brain is melting)

Pro tip: Don’t use 17 different apps. Keep it simple, stupid.

The SOS System

When life hits the fan and Google Calendar feels like a joke:

  • I bust out Notion
  • Create a to-do list that would make Santa jealous
  • Only use it when I’m adding a new habit or feeling overwhelmed

The Million-Dollar Question

Is all this organization making us more productive? Or are we just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic?

Next week, I’m spilling the tea on my favorite tech tools as a developer. It’s gonna be good.

Bonus: Naval’s Nuggets of Wisdom

Oh, and if you haven’t heard of Naval Ravikant, you’re missing out. This guy’s brain operates on a different level. Here are some mind-benders from his book:

  • Wealth isn’t money. It’s assets that make money while you sleep.
  • Take risks under your own name. Society rewards the bold.
  • Have an aspirational hourly rate. If it costs less to outsource, do it.
  • Code and media are your tickets to freedom. They work while you don’t.
  • Everyone wants to lead or have capital. But someone’s gotta follow and give it to you.
  • When you’re rich, you’ll realize it wasn’t about the money. (But that’s a story for another day)

That’s a wrap, folks. If you’re into this, hit reply and let me know. If not… well, I’ll be reorganizing my sock drawer.

Peace out!
